Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago in the south of Argentina. One of the islands that compose it is Isla Grande, which is really big, about the size of a European country like Holland (47,992 (185298 mill2).
The Isla Grande habitat offers a great diversity of fishing spots. You could fish in spring creeks, in beautiful lakes like Yakush, Chepelmut, Yehuin or in rivers like Indio River, Claro River, Grande Rio and Menendez River.
What To Fish
Lake Yakush, Chepelmut and Yehuin are home to a large population of Fontinalis and Brown Trout from 2.2 to 8.8 lb kg. The Claro River reached after an attractive quad ride, whose cloudier and emerald colored water, houses trout that come up from Lake Fagnano or Kami, in some cases reaching 5 kg in weight, with their iridescent silver of incredible beauty. The season starts in November and ends in mid April.
And to add to the fun, we have to the Pesca del Río Grande or Menéndez River, which houses the large Sea-Run Brown Trout with sizes up to 30 lb and averaging 13 to 15 lb. This is an anadromous trout that swims up the river from the sea to carry out its reproductive cycle.
The required equipment is a number 5/6, which due to its characteristics does not require very long casts, and sometimes we foat a Belly Boat. On the other hand, in the Río Grande and Menendez, the fishing is with larger equipment 8/9, and the same size in spey cast. The strong winds and long distances make this type of tackle and technique almost obligatory.
